Define The Goal: Before you start coming up with a ton of ideas with your team, it is important to have a destination in mind. President Juan Manuel Santos once told me that "Every ship needs a destination. You must choose your destination before you start or you will be lost at sea.".
We start by getting extreme clarity on what you and your business are trying to accomplish and what the current state of the world is for you.
Generate Ideas: After we know where we are going and why we have decided to make this journey, it is time to start generating ideas. This is done one on one or in small groups. Depending on the size of the journey you are taking it often helps to have each group generate ideas for only a small part of the overall picture. This is brainstorming with a purpose!
Collect Ideas: Once you have generated a pool of ideas, it's time to bring them all together and start looking for themes and organize them all. The organization process is when we refocus on the goal and reestablish extreme clarity.
Analyze Ideas: Once the ideas are organized we measure each idea on several factors such as cost, feasibility, effort, the likelihood of producing desired results, and many more. We then pitch each idea and test our assumptions about the metrics we are measuring them by.
Act: At the end of this process we should now have a few ideas to choose from that check all the boxes for moving forward towards your goals. Now is the time to pick one, plan a project, and execute.
This process can be as intense or as fluid as you want. Most people who ideate as a core strength don't enjoy structure so it is important to create atmosphere and environments that engage and encourage free thought and creativity.
There are three primary ways to approach this journey
Ideation Sprints are for people who are looking for a quick conversation and brainstorming session to generate "Ah-Ha" moments. This is typically a series of 1-hour calls where I run you through the first three phases of the journey.
This is a very informal process and can happen quickly.
The Ideation Workshop is designed to be conducted One on One or Small Groups. This is typically a one or multiday event that covers all five phases of ideation.
This workshop typically results in 2 to 4 solid, actionable business models and ideas.
After you have your direction, we find the likelihood of those ideas turning into actual business value is higher if you engage with long term support. This is when we move from Consulting to Coaching. This typically lasts 6 to 12 months depending on the scope of the projects you decided to Act on.
